Why one fibre cut shouldn't mean 64 alarms
An outage flows downhill. Find the highest broken point and the rest is noise.
By the Autoprator team. Updated .
When a cable is cut, everything behind it goes quiet at once. A simple monitor sees each device as its own problem, so the NOC gets a wall of red and nobody knows where to start.
Know the shape of your network
An uplink feeds a router, the router feeds an OLT, and each OLT port serves its ONUs. Outages flow down that path, so the highest broken point is the fault and everything below it is a symptom.
One incident, with its real size
Group the alarms under that point and the engineer reads one line: which device, how many subscribers, and when it started. That is the difference between starting the fix and starting the search.
A start for this week
Write down which OLT port serves which area. Even a simple list means the next outage starts with a location, not a question.
